The obverse (top) Die was slightly mis-aligned, and when it came down, it hit the reeded collar, instead of coming directly down on it. The reeding from the collar was transferred to. the edge of the die, which struck your coin. Not rare or valuable, but a nice example of something. going wrong with the minting process. Jun 17, 2013 · It's very hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a misaligned die. Misaligned dies will only effect one side of the coin whereas an off-center strike would effect both sides. If the rims were just worn down I would expect to see more wear at other areas. It looks almost like there wasn't much of a rim to begin with when it was struck, maybe from an undersized blank, or possibly broadstruck.
